Durante febrero de 1937 y en pleno apogeo de la Guerra Civil española, la invasión fascista de la ciudad de Málaga tuvo como consecuencia el éxodo de decenas de miles de personas tanto de dentro como fuera de la provincia. La caída del último gran bastión republicano en Andalucía se cobró la vida de más de 5.000 civiles inocentes que huían de la guerra. La gran mayoría de ellas fueron masacradas en la travesía que separa Málaga de Almería (actual N-340) cuando fueron bombardeadas por aire por las tropas alemanas e italianas, y por mar por los buques franquistas Canarias, Baleares y Almirante Cervera mientras huían de la Costa del Sol para encontrar refugio en otras ciudades del Mediterráneo. El médico Norman Bethune, el fotógrafo Hazen Sise (ambos canadienses) y el novelista húngaro-británico Arthur Koestler dieron imágenes y voz a estos sucesos que la censura de la dictadura franquista se encargó de borrar de nuestra memoria.

Esta canción pretende honrar la memoria de todas las víctimas del franquismo, el fascismo, el odio y la intolerancia. Jamás habrá olvido ni perdón.
